Scheduling Responses from Video Databases (extended Abstract)

چکیده
In a video database system, the answer to a query Q may involve retrieval of a set of segments of one or more videos. When multiple queries are posed by several users, we might wish to reorder the video segments so as to take advantage of the fact that certain video blocks appear in the answers to diierent queries. We assume that the user generating a query is not particularly interested in the order in which movie segments are presented. Based on this assumption, a server generating responses may be able to reorder the movie clips in such a way that the number of accesses to databases can be minimized. As this problem of ordering movie clips has been shown to be NP-complete, we propose three algorithms to order video clips in such a way that number of database accesses is reduced. We present these algorithms, together with experimental data evaluating performance under diierent assumptions on the distribution of requests.

Virtual Clock Scheduling Algorithm for Video Streaming
509 Abstract—Algorithms used for scheduling play a major role in providing quality of service in video streaming. This paper describes a simulation environment that has been designed combining network simulator ns2 with video codec to predict the quality of service. Virtual clock scheduling algorithm has been applied to evaluate the performance metrics and compared with the weighted round robin...
متن کاملReal-Time Scheduling by Cascading
Real-time scheduling is important for modern computer systems to support increasingly popular multimedia applications. In this paper, we consider a simple video server that receives the commands from clients and sends the video data without error occurred. In the video server, there is one parent thread for dealing with the arrival video tasks. After receiving a new video task from a client, a ...
متن کاملOptimized H.264/AVC-Based Bit Stream Switching for Mobile Video Streaming
In this work we show the suitability of H.264/MPEG-4 AVC extended profile for wireless video streaming applications. In particular, we exploit the advanced bit stream switching capabilities using SP/SI pictures defined in the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC standard. For both types of switching pictures, optimized encoders are developed. We introduce a framework for dynamic switching and frame scheduling. For...
متن کاملContinuity-Aware Scheduling Algorithm for Scalable Video Streaming
Abstract: The consumer demand for retrieving and delivering visual content through consumer electronic devices has increased rapidly in recent years. The quality of video in packet networks is susceptible to certain traffic characteristics: average bandwidth availability, loss, delay and delay variation (jitter). This paper presents a scheduling algorithm that modifies the stream of scalable vi...
